The 45 rpm record sleeves above represent songs submitted to Decca Records in 1964 and 1965. All three recordings were enthustically received by the company but none made it onto the UK hit parade, at least not under The Presidents' name. Click here and listen to host Tony Blackburn and producer Phil Swern of BBC's "Sounds of the 60s" radio show as they tell the story behind these releases and how it explains why The Presidents describe themselves as "the 60s rock band that almost made it big". The following selection of tracks, chosen to include every member of the band between 1959 to 1965, can be heard by clicking on the red stars:
*The following versions were produced and recorded by Robin Mayhew, in 2006: Watch this video, made live at a partial band reunion in December 2016:
The "She Said Yeah" story In the mid-60s when The Presidents signed with
Decca Records they submitted an acetate recording of "She Said Yeah", written by Roddy Jackson and Sonny Bono, for possible release ... but it mysteriously disappeared. Canada hears The Presidents' story... This Radio Sidney 'What About Us' show features the The Presidents and is
hosted by Canadian author Bruce Welsh, known for his well-researched insight into 1960s British groups which helped shape the sounds of the sixties - yet never set foot in North America. The "Candy Man" story The late Brian Matthews tells The Presidents' "Candy Man" story on this segment of The Presidents on YouTube Discovery of the "She Said Yeah" acetate prompted the band's final lineup to get together to make a video of a studio performance of this classic song. Watch Secretary Bird on YouTube Click here to see a June 2019 video of the reunited Presidents (with Robin Mayhew's son, Olly) performing Secretary Bird, his song featuring the cause of many traffic accidents. "Distracted driving is the most common cause of road accidents in the United States, resulting in more crashes every year than speeding, drunk driving orother major accident causes. Drivers become distracted behind the wheel for a variety of reasons." Google, Feb 28, 2019
